Valy Hypollite

Valy (Oswald Hyppolite jr) was born in Port-au-Prince in 1948. As a teenager, he took visual arts courses by correspondence and used his knowledge in the execution and sale of Christmas cards and of his first watercolor paintings.

Settled in Quebec in 1970, he joined forces with other artists from Boisbriand and Rosemère and participated in several exhibitions of their group, Atelier 29. Later, in the mid-1980s, he took courses at the Saidye Center Bronfman with Marion Wagshall, Seymour Segal and Yehuda Chaki.

In 1998, he was admitted to the group of Artists in the studio of Brother Jérôme. However, his association with Mosaik Art in 2003 was the most important decision of his career. He draws inspiration for his paintings primarily from scenes from everyday Haitian life.
